Psychotherapy Approaches
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) encourages the client to focus briefly on a difficult memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements or tapping), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion related to the memory. It does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue, which can be relieving to the client; allowing the brain to resume its natural healing process.
In addition to work with her own clients, Margaret offers adjunct EMDR therapy which is intended to complement the current and ongoing work individuals are doing with their primary therapist. Margaret partner's with therapists to help their clients resolve traumatic memories that are causing looping or a standstill in traditional talk therapy. It is short term, typically 4-8 sessions, and designed to assist in moving treatment forward.
