Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is based on the idea that our lives are shaped by the experiences and events we move through and by the stories we form about those experiences. Over time, these stories influence how we see ourselves, our relationships and what we believe is possible for us. Therapy offers space to explore these narratives with care, especially when they have become shaped by trauma, loss or ongoing stress. The goal is not to erase the past but to understand it with greater compassion and flexibility while creating room for new meaning moving forward.

Separating You From the Problem

When hardship becomes part of someone’s story, it can begin to feel like it defines who they are. Narrative Therapy helps separate a person from the problems they are facing so identity is no longer centered on symptoms, diagnoses or difficult chapters. In therapy, the problem is viewed as something you are experiencing, not something you are. This shift can create relief, clarity and a renewed sense of agency.

Reclaiming Strength and Meaning

You are seen as the expert of your own life. Therapy focuses on listening deeply to your experiences while uncovering strengths, values, skills and hopes that may have been overshadowed. These often include “buried” narratives of resilience, care, courage and purpose. By bringing these stories forward, therapy helps reconnect you with a fuller, more balanced understanding of who you are and what matters to you.
