Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems, often called IFS, is a gentle and deeply respectful approach to therapy that helps people understand themselves from the inside out. IFS is based on the idea that we all have different “parts” within us. These parts develop in response to life experiences and often exist to protect us or help us survive difficult moments. Sometimes these parts can feel overwhelming or in conflict with one another. You might feel pulled in different directions or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. IFS helps you identify and build a relationship with these parts rather than trying to suppress or eliminate them. At the heart of IFS is the belief that everyone has an authentic core self. This self is calm, clear, curious and compassionate. Through IFS therapy, individuals learn to access this internal sense of stability and lead their inner system with greater understanding and care. As wounded parts are gently acknowledged and healed, people often experience increased confidence, clarity, connectedness, courage, calmness, playfulness, patience and presence. Therapy focuses on curiosity rather than judgment, creating safety for meaningful and lasting change.
